As you know the CDC recommends the flu vaccine for everyone 6 months of age and older to help prevent getting the flu. It has also been recognized that people 65 years and older are at greater risk of serious complications from the flu and bear the greatest burden of severe flu disease. People 65 years of age and older should also be up to date with the pneumococcal vaccine to help protect against conditions such as pneumonia.
According to the CDC, people with certain chronic health conditions are at a higher risk for complications of the flu and worsening of their condition.
Chronic health conditions such as:
- Asthma
- COPD
- Chronic congestive heart failure
- Heart disease and stroke
- Diabetes
